How much will it cost to Light Up My Party?

If you’re planning to hire an event tent to create some extra space for your garden gathering, you’ve come to the right place. Now, I understand that not everyone is a marquee expert, and that’s perfectly fine. I’m Richard Hale, director of Light Up My Party and owner for 13 years of Elite Tents, the Midlands leading tipi and marquee hire company, and I’m here to demystify the process for you.

Let’s cut to the chase – event tents come in various shapes and sizes, and naturally, the larger or ‘flashier’ the tent, the higher the cost. Keep in mind that the duration of hire also plays a role in pricing. For most companies, including us at Light Up My Party, the standard hire period is three days – set up on a Friday and removed on Monday. However, for events like Asian Weddings or Festivals, marquees might stay up for a more extended period.

Now, here’s a pro tip: 95% of marquees come with flooring and lighting as a basic package because, well, it’s just more practical. I highly recommend considering these as a minimum requirement and that is why all our Silver packages include those together with some seating.

But hold on, there’s more! When you’re enquiring about the cost of hiring a marquee, remember they can also come with additional items such as linings, heating, nightclub-style lighting, furniture, dancefloors, bars, and more. The interior options can bump up the overall cost, but fear not – at Light Up My Party, we provide packages we know work, based on our years of experience with each of our three package levels giving you a clear idea of costs for different specifications.

Now, I hear you asking, “Richard, get to the point, how much does it cost?” Well, without diving into wishy-washy answers, it’s still a bit challenging to give you an exact figure without a brief chat. Factors like size, date, garden layout, location, and access all come into play. However, let me provide you with a rough guide based on three examples of our marquee and tipis:

So how much DOES it ACTUALLY cost to hire an event tent?

When it comes to price, there are several factors to consider. Now more than ever budget is a main concern for everybody. As much as we wish it didn’t, money impacts most of our decisions.

Here are some of the things that will affect your price…

Tent Size Matters
No surprise here – the bigger the tent, the higher the cost. Consider your guest numbers and any extras like bars, chill-out areas, or dance floors.

Package Contents
Light Up My Party offers three package levels including the tent, flooring, basic lighting, and seating. Different packages may vary, so review the contents carefully. Adding extras like fairy lights or fire pits can increase the cost, but we recommend starting with a comprehensive package and customising from there.

Delivery and Setup
Light Up My Party covers the first 30 miles of delivery in their event tent packages. Additional delivery may be quoted for longer distances. Delivery and setup costs are usually the same, except for prop-only orders, which have different delivery costs depending on what you order.

Type of Tent

The type of tent affects the price. Flashier tents may cost more but require less decoration. Consider the natural look of the tent, especially when comparing standard marquees and tipis.

Time of Year

Prices can fluctuate with the seasons. Summer and bank holidays are peak times with higher prices, while winter, excluding Christmas, tends to have lower prices. Winter events can even come with discounts as companies have more flexibility.

Top Tip: Don’t forget the other costs associated with the time of year, such as heating during the winter months.

Day of the Week

Unlike indoor venues, tent hire prices don’t necessarily drop for midweek events. Setups and takedowns often span across weekends, so midweek events may incur additional logistics charges. Exceptions can be made for events with a one-day difference or those in the off-season, but it’s not a guaranteed cost reduction.
